Ian Houghton, loving wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021. She was 80 years old. Ian’s Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2021 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. Dorothy Stein officiating. Interment will follow at the Killdeer Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday.
Ian was born in Killdeer on June 13, 1940 to Alec and Ann (Lushenko) Sabrosky. She attended Killdeer School and Bismarck Junior College. Ian started dating Gary Houghton when they were in Jr. High and they were married on December 27, 1959. They were blessed with a daughter, Tricia, and a son, Glen. Gary and Ian owned and operated H & H Implement for ten years and thereafter ranched west of Killdeer.
Ian and Gary were very involved in the El Zagal Shrine and the Rangers parade group. Ian always shared fond memories of those years. Ian loved to read and had a beautiful singing voice. She spent a number of her later years as a member of the Prairie Rose Chorus and the Sweet Adelines.
Ian was a wonderful gardener and for a long time had a massive garden. She spent many hours pulling weeds, watering and harvesting…she made the best rhubarb jelly. She enjoyed cooking, but not nearly as much as everyone else enjoyed eating her delicious meals. Ian’s most prized possessions were her children and grandchildren…all of which she was very proud. She loved being a mom and grandma.
Through all of her life’s experiences, she formed beautiful friendships that she cherished.
Ian was preceded in death by her husband, Gary in January, 1999; her parents; infant granddaughter, Whitney Schlegel; in-laws, Guy Houghton, Mae Booke, Patsy Pelton, and Roger Brew; nephew, Roy Pelton; and niece, Sandy Cusson.
She is survived by her children, Tricia (Michael) Schlegel and Glen (Terri) Houghton; brother, Reg (Sherry) Saybrook; grandchildren, Matthew (Jessica) Schlegel, Garrett (Ashley) Houghton, Kaitlyn (Justin) Rosenau, Grady (Abby) Houghton, Karly (Trent) Capraro, Mikayla (Tel) Lardy, Kasey (Wyatt Staal) Houghton, and Cody Schlegel; great-grandchildren, Owen Schlegel, Harper and Stella Houghton, Graham, Porter and Mavis Rosenau, Lydia and baby Houghton, Corbin and baby Capraro, and baby Lardy; in-laws, Edna Mae (Jim) Duncan, Clive Pelton, Linda Brew; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
