This is where she met and got engaged to Alfred Kadrmas. When Alfred joined the military and was deployed to the European Theatre in WWII, Katherine went to Milwaukee, Wis. and Minneapolis, Minn. to stay with family and work. While in Minneapolis she was approached to do modeling but chose to instead work a steady job at a Fig Newton Bar factory. Katherine and Alfred farmed north of Belfield in the Snow community and raised three children, Carol, Glen and Sherry. One of her proudest attainements was that all three of her children were able to go to college. Besides farming, they raised sheep, milked dairy cows, and had range cattle. Katherine kept busy raising chickens and tending a very large garden and did a vast amount of canning.
