John Patrick Studer December 29, 1988 - February 29, 2020

Date of Funeral

Wednesday, February 12, 2020

John Patrick Studer, loving son, brother and husband, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 31 on February 29, 2020. Visitation for John will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020 with a Celebration of Life Service at 6 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. John will be laid to rest in his hometown of Somerset, Ohio.

John was born on December 29, 1988 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio. He grew up and graduated from Somerset in 2007. Two years later, ready to move on and feeling adventurous, John decided to start a new life in North Dakota taking a job with BJ Services/Baker Hughes.

On December 31, 2012 John began dating Amanda Schmidt. The two quickly fell in love and began building their life together. They shared three precious dogs, Bella, Teddy and Baloo. In the fall of 2016 John and Amanda bought their first home and two years later on December 30, 2018 they were united in marriage.

John, or “Pat” as he was affectionately known back home in Ohio, had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. He was quick to jump in to help others in need and was known for being the friend who would lend an ear to listen and when asked would give his own brand of advice.

He had an almost obsessive passion for guns, loving to hunt, shoot and collect. John had the amazing ability to converse with anyone about any subject, although he would giggle and say, “I’m sad now, we aren’t talking about guns.” John was a lover of music of all kinds, playing guitar and singing with his family and friends. His kind and compassionate spirit will be sorely missed, but forever in the hearts and minds of those who love him dearly.

John is survived by his loving wife, Amanda Schmidt-Studer; his parents, John T. and Dianna Studer; brothers, Joseph “Jes” Studer and Shawn Studer; sisters, Nancy Rice and Sara Sowders; grandparents, Harold and Nancy Davis and Joann Studer; uncles, Ed (Debra) Studer, Patrick Studer, and Jeffrey Davis; aunt, Mary (Jerry Weaver) O’Brien; lots of extended family, and more friends than one can count. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gerald Studer.

When you think of John remember his smile, his compassion, his love of nature, his passion for the things in life he found dear and carry that over into your life. Fly high John.
