This is the story of Arnold F. Rummel, Sr., a resident of Dickinson.

Arnold was born in Richardton on August 30, 1934, the son of Fred and Lottie (Gallagher) Rummel. After graduation from Assumption Abbey High School he worked in Dickinson at Lee’s Truck Stop and with that experience purchased a Texaco Station in 1958. In 1963 he purchased another business across the street on West Villard and named it Rummel’s Auto Wrecking and has been active there ever since. Arnold met the love of his life, Barbara F. Mischel of Dickinson and they were married at St. Patrick’s Church on September 7, 1954.

Arnold cared about his community and served for many years as a firefighter on the Dickinson Rural Fire Department. He was appointed Fire Chief and served in that capacity for over 25 years. Arnold was very instrumental in the formation of the Dickinson Rural Rescue Squad and acquiring rescue equipment like the Jaws of Life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, the Elks, and the Eagles. He served on the Trinity High School Booster Club, Dickinson High School Advisory Board, ND Fireman’s Association, St. Patrick’s Parish Activities Committee and a life-long usher, and many other committees and boards.

Arnold loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and since 1990 had a cabin at Mossett Bay. He spent many weekends at the lake fishing, playing cards, and being outdoors on his special projects. There were many happy times and memories at the lake with his family and many friends.

Arnold was so proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed their visits and spending time with them. There’s no denying that he spoiled them all.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Arnold are his father and mother, Fred and Lottie Rummel; his half-brother, Peter Gartner; his brother, Donald Rummel; grandson, Bradly Rummel; and his great-grandson Bryson Rummel. Loved ones that will miss Arnold until they meet again are his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Lori Rummel-Wock (Paul); his sons, Charles (Helen), Dean (Danita), Arnie (DeAnne), Brian (Ginny), and Patrick (Keri); his grandchildren, Scott (Deja) Rummel, Brent (Jill) Rummel, Chad Rummel, Christopher Rummel, Seth Rummel, Kyle (Ashley) Rummel, Jennifer (Jason) Karlgaard, Kayla (Jared) Muth, Klark (Briana) Rummel, Katelyn Rummel, and Britani (Zach) Keller; great-grandchildren Alexis Campbell, Abigail Campbell, Ava Rummel, Abe Rummel, Mya Rummel, Matthew Karlgaard, Jonathan Karlgaard, Elizabeth Karlgaard, Hannah Karlgaard, Logan Keller, Gemma Keller, Geles Keller, Lucy Muth, Maci Muth, and Wyatt Rummel; his sisters, Ione (Bruce) Cady, Billings, Mont., and Patricia (Bill) Freidt, Mott; his brother, Gerald Rummel, Richardton; and his sister-in-law, Gladys Rummel.
