James “Jim” W. Brines, 70, Dickinson, died Saturday, February 22, 2020 at CHI St. Alexius Bismarck. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2020 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Pastor Joe Natwick officiating. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military Honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service.
James Walter Brines was born June 22, 1949 at New Rockford to Walter and Ludetta (Warren) Brines. He graduated from Sheyenne High School. Jim went on to service his country in the United States Army from 1970-1971, having served time in Korea.
On November 25, 1972, Jim was united in marriage to Diane Hanson at Oberon. In 1981, they settled in Dickinson. He had attended school at Wahpeton and graduated from Dickinson State College with a degree in Accounting. Before Jim’s retirement in 2014, he worked for North Dakota State Human Services.
He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles Club. In his spare time he loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed wood working, time at the lake, riding his motorcycle and playing games. He will forever be known as a prankster.
Jim is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter, Shelly (Kim) Olheiser, Dickinson, son, Nathan, West Fargo; five grandchildren, Cole (Nicole) Olheiser, Trevor (Brittney) Olheiser, Sophie Olheiser, Allie Brines and Jaxon Brines; great-granddaughter, Hadley Rose Olheiser and one soon to be; and two sisters, Sandra (Donald) Walford, New Castle, Wyo. and Joan Brines, Park City, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ludetta.
