I, Dennis Beaudoin, took the pleasure to write my obituary. I joined my late wife and the Lord on February 13, 2019, surrounded by my children. I was born on March 2, 1947 in Dickinson to Wallace and Helen (Anton) Beaudoin. I was the oldest of six siblings, three sisters and two brothers.
I grew up in Dickinson and attended St. Patrick’s grade school and later graduated from Trinity High School in 1965 which was the first graduating class. I continued to practice and live my Catholic faith throughout my life.
During high school, I worked for my dad drilling water wells. I also worked for my uncle Lester making concrete blocks and various concrete products.
On August 1, 1967, I was drafted into the US Army, did my basic training in Fort Lewis, Washington, and later Fort Polk, Louisiana. From there, I was deployed to Vietnam for service, where I was assigned to the 196th Infantry Brigade. I spent ten and a half months in combat before contracting malaria, and spent time in a Kansas City Hospital recovering. I finished my tour in Fort Carson, Colorado. I was honorably discharged August 1, 1969.
I returned home and happily married my love Delores Emmil on August 22, 1969, and together we raised nine children. Delores passed away March 10, 2008.
I sure did enjoy fishing, camping and traveling but my favorite thing was to buy vehicles. It was fun to see how long it took my children to notice that I bought another vehicle. I enjoyed the latest technology, often teaching my kids a thing or two.
I started working for F & J Construction and then went to work for Mike Cuskelly doing engineering work for the City of Dickinson. Later, I worked for the City of Dickinson Engineering Department until March 1979, when I partnered with Terry Glick starting BG Excavation, Inc. Starting out we worked on new homes for contractors and private people installing basements and sewer lines. Terry and I also bid jobs with various cities doing municipal work, which included installing water, sewer, and storm lines. We also contracted with the City of Dickinson excavating water breaks throughout the year. We ventured into commercial work, including the additions of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Heartland Homes Park where we install water and sewer utilities. We subcontracted work on the new City Hall, CHI St. Alexius Hospital, the new Middle School, Dickinson Law Enforcement Center, Manning Court House, and various projects for The Medora Foundation.
I retired June of 2016 after 37 years in the business. I was still helping with the accounting take over. With much pride, I turned over the business to my boys, Ryan and Jayme.
I am so proud of the children I raised and all of their successes. I will miss fishing, camping visiting or just stopping for a beer with you all. I will greatly miss my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Thank you to my children and CHI Hospice for the care in my final days. From Dennis’ family, a sincere thank you to Teri Bolke and Pat Fegley for your friendship over the years.
Live your life to the fullest as I did and have no regrets. Until we meet again.
I am survived by my children, Westley (Donna) Beaudoin, Las Vegas, Nev., Carrie (Jeff) Decker, Dickinson, Todd (Catherine) Beaudoin, Mesa, Ariz., Leann (Mike Dubisar) Beaudoin, New England, Jayme (Amy) Beaudoin, Dickinson, Ryan (Alyssa) Beaudoin, Dickinson, Lora (Dusty) Littlefield, Dickinson, Darin Beaudoin, Midvale, Utah and Amanda (Brad) Rothschiller, Dickinson; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard (Joyce), Dickinson, Tim, Dickinson, Marla Johnson, Texas, Judy (Jeff) Helfinstein, Texas and Jolene (Warren) Pietsch, Minot; brothers and sisters-in-law and special friends, Teri Bolke and Pat Fegley. I was preceded in death by wife Delores; and my parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Stark County Veterans Memorial.
