Rosemary “Rosie” Weiler, 70, Gladstone, died surrounded by her family on Monday, September 24, 2018 at her home. Rosie’s Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2018 at Living Word Fellowship, Dickinson with Rev. Scott Skones officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Rosemary “Rosie” Oster was born to Paul and Hattie (Kovash) Oster Jr. on October 19, 1947 at Richardton Hospital. Rosie was raised 12 miles north of Gladstone, North Dakota on the family farm among the beautiful rolling hills and valleys of south-central Dunn County. Rosie attended school with her siblings in Gladstone, graduating in 1965. Rosie was an eager worker and upon graduation she immediately began working for Associate Finance in Dickinson. Rosie loved the camaraderie of her colleagues, clients and friends throughout her working years.
In 1969 Rosie met Cliff, the love her life. Cliff was working at King’s Super Value across the street from Rosie’s office and he really thought she should give him a chance. After one date, she decided it would be o.k. if he were to call on her again. Later in 1969 Cliff and Rosie moved to Portland, Oregon, to explore the Pacific Northwest and spend time with extended family there. They knew their hearts, home and family were in Dickinson and they moved home to Dickinson in 1970. Cliff and Rosie were united in marriage on June 20, 1970 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church surrounded by family and friends. Following their marriage, Cliff and Rosie moved to Sturgis, South Dakota to continue their employment and relationship with Super Value. Cliff and Rosie greatly enjoyed their years and experiences in the Black Hills area, returning many times since to visit their favorite sites and friends there. Cliff and Rosie moved home to Dickinson in 1973. Rosie was then employed by Dr. Larsen in Dickinson for 2 years. Cliff and Rosie then managed the Nodak Motel for 5 years. It was 1980 when Rosie and Cliff purchased the family farm where she was raised, and they have resided there ever since, growing with the love and kindness of great neighbors and family. For twenty-five years Rosie managed Cliff and together they grew a healthy insurance practice for Nodak Mutual Insurance, focused on caring for clients who became great friends and all their insurance and financial service needs.
Rosie and Cliff are blessed with 2 children, Jason (Melissa) Weiler and Amanda (Brian) Russ. Rosie shared her love of life, animals and clean country living with her family and it was on the family farm they found peace and happiness in the quiet embrace of God’s beauty all around them. As years passed, Rosie’s family grew to include granddaughters Lexie (Shane) Undem, Alyssa Adolf, Lilly Weiler, Synphony and Aria Schroeder.
Aside from her tenacity for work, Rosie greatly enjoyed crafting, playing cards – usually winning, cooking holiday meals to the delight of her family and trips with Cliff to various casinos. Rosie enjoyed her hobbies tremendously and she pursued them as she pursued her life, with passion. Rosie had a green thumb in the garden and she could help any plant grow. She loved spending time among her garden perennials and the sights and sounds of the farm from the comfort of the gazebo Cliff built for her. Rosie loved music, she found great solace in Alan Jackson’s Precious Memories collection while she was battling the frustrations of cancer. While raising Jason and Amanda, she made lifetime memories for them by playing holiday songs on her guitar and singing along as a family.
Rosie was a peaceful, loving soul. Rosie nurtured many animals in her lifetime having a special place in her heart and daily activities for the care of her dogs Ralphie, Barney, Serena and Puggy Sue, many beautiful cats who were once independent farm cats that quickly became family. A special friend, her long-haired cat, Fuzzy, gave her daily comfort, amusement and looked lovingly upon her with God’s eyes while Rosie took respite at home these past couple years.
Rosie was blessed with the love of sisters Patricia (Jerry) Mackey, Diana (Delmer) Entze, Geraldine (Dave) Taylor, Joyce (Curt) Volesky, many wonderful nieces, nephews and the bounty of extended family that were all friends and witnessed her love for them and the moments they shared together. Rosie loved her family, neighbors and friends dearly. Rosie found a special friend in Jackie Knowlen who reinforced confidence in God’s will and many prayerful, endearing friends at Living Word Fellowship in Dickinson.
Rosie and her family are forever grateful to her special friends at the infusion center who provided calm, comfort and concern to her during treatments. Dr. Wos’ compassion and consistent attention to Rosie and Cliff is truly appreciated. Loving kindness is the only way to describe the end-of-life comfort provided by nurse Karli and Hospice Care – thank you all from our hearts for being there. Rosie passed into the waiting, loving arms of Jesus on Monday morning, September 24, 2018.
