Arlene Chapinski, 79, Dickinson, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Sanford Health, Fargo. Arlene’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Kris Ringwall presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Arlene Truchan was born December 11, 1938 to William and Angeline (Hropko) Truchan. She was raised on the family farm in Killdeer where she graduated from high school in 1957. After graduation, she attended business school in Rapid City.
She then moved back to North Dakota and worked several jobs before she met and married Joseph Chapinski on February 2, 1963. They began their new life in Fords, N.J. where three children were born. In 1975, Arlene and her children returned to North Dakota. Arlene then began her career at DSU in Computer Services in 1977 where she worked until retirement in 2000.
Arlene’s pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandson. Her time and devotion to them was extraordinary. She had the pleasure of babysitting her great grandson until she fell ill. She also enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, breakfast at McDonald’s, and an occasional trip to the casino.
Arlene is survived by her daughter, Nadine (Michael) Brewer; sons, Joseph (Corrine) Chapinski, and Michael Chapinski; grandchildren, Caden (Haley), Cailie, and Alex Brewer; great-grandchild, Jacen; one brother, Manley (Linda) Truchan; sister-in-law, Bev Truchan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pauline; and brother William.
