Larry James Stockert, 63, Great Falls, Mont., passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at Benefis Peace Hospice, Great Falls. There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2018 with Military Honors and a Liturgy of Word Service at 11:30 a.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding. Military Honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Larry J. Stockert was born April 30, 1955 in Dickinson, to Valentine and Evangeline (Frank) Stockert. He was raised and educated in Dickinson. From high school he joined the army. From the army, Larry went on to a career with the railroad, eventually becoming a conductor with Amtrak, a role he truly enjoyed. On March 26, 1976 he married his sweetheart, Linda Kostelecky.
Larry very much enjoyed the time he spent fishing and camping with family. Larry loved gardening and developing new recipes with Linda and his twin brother Gary. He dedicated himself to studying the bible and sharing his beliefs with others. Above all else, Larry loved spending time with Linda, his grandchildren and family. Larry was a man of conviction who lived life on his terms.
Larry is survived by his father, Valentine Stockert; his wife of 42 years, Linda Stockert; two children, Laura (Monte) Gourley and Shelly (Scott) Widhalm; grandchildren, Alexandria and Dartanian Widhalm and Alyssa Hauer; siblings, Lillian (Doug) Homstad, Lyle (Diane) Stockert, Vivian (Dan) Caylor, Virginia Sticka, Alvin (Tammy) Stockert and Julian (Don) Gerber; numerous nieces and nephews and his Kostelecky family.
He was preceded in death by his mother Angie, brothers Gary and Val Stockert, brothers-in-law, Dave Sticka and Bob Kostelecky; and niece Jennifer (Homstad) Barrera.
