Randy Lee Fortin was born as David Kim on January 2, 1953 in Pusan, South Korea. He was adopted by Robert and Rozella (Holan) Fortin on August 6, 1955. He was educated in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1971. He went on to attend two years of college. Randy worked as a surveyor in many extreme locations such as the Texas desert during the heat of summer and Alaska in the depth of winter. He loved the work he did and the challenges of the natural elements. Randy had a great love for the great outdoors and vast open spaces. He worked at a cedar mill in Idaho for a time and in 2012 returned to North Dakota and worked various jobs throughout the area.

Randy married Rebekah (Lee) Barnett on December 27, 2003 and to this union two children were born, Emma Naoma and Sarah Beth, joining Rebekah’s four other children, Angel Varena Barnet, Brian Thomas Barnet, Rachel Elizabeth Barnet and Christopher Dale Barnet. Randy enjoyed spending time with his children and step-children and had a strong relationship with them.
He had a great love for cooking, baking and it showed with his attention to detail when he made his delicious meals and desserts. Randy was very intelligent and had a fascination for anything scientific, especially space and the cosmos. He expressed his artistic side through beautiful pen drawings and photography of the natural world. He was a life long learner, if there ever was one, he loved new ideas and experiences. He will always be remembered as a man who was gentle and kind and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Randy is survived by his children, Emma Fortin and Sarah Fortin; step-children, Angel Barnett, Brian Barnett, Rachel Barnett and Christopher Barnett; sister, Roberta Fortin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
