Betty Lou Holmly was born September 26, 1938 to Leland and Minnie (Ness) Holmly in Rolette. She was raised on a farm near Nanson and attended school in Nanson and Rolette. On April 28, 1957 she married Stanley Kittelson. Stanley served in the US Air Force and was briefly stationed in Germany. While he was overseas, Betty lived with family in North Dakota. When Stanley returned, they were stationed in San Antonio, Texas. Curtis was born there. They returned to North Dakota and lived in Grand Forks and Minot. Deborah was born while they were in Minot. The family moved to Security, Colo., and then, in 1968, they made their home in Dickinson.
Betty waited until her children were grown before she went to work at Roosevelt Elementary School as the Head Cook. She worked there for 24 years. Betty and Stanley were active members of the Theodore Roosevelt Amateur Radio Club. Betty received her “Ham” radio license and was known to many as “KB0NVT”. Once they both retired, Stanley and Betty spent the winters traveling in their camper, eventually spending their time in Yuma, Ariz.
Betty was known for her fresh baked buns and her delicious brownies. She made sure to have them at all family gatherings. She made all occasions a special occasion with food and love.
