Dolores Godes, 86, formerly of Belfield, died Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, with family at her side. Dolores’ Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2017 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield, with Fr. William Ruelle as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Bob Zent presiding at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Dolores Schubert was born June 3, 1931 on the family farm, 13 miles north of Richardton, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Zentner) Schubert. She was raised and educated in the Richardton area, graduating eighth grade from the Germania School District. She continued working on the farm helping neighbors.
On July 7, 1951, Dolores was united in marriage to Reinhard Godes at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton. In 1953, they moved into Dickinson where she did various housekeeping and babysitting jobs. In 1956, they moved to the HT Ranch, west of Amidon. In 1964, they moved to the Custer Trail Ranch five miles south of Medora. In 1966, they moved to Belfield where she made her home until entering St. Benedict’s Health Center in 2012. Her hobbies were sewing and crocheting. She wouldn’t put her sewing machine away for days. When you came to visit, you saw her sewing different outfits for her small granddaughters at the time. She always had goodies at the house for the little ones. Even at St. Ben’s if somebody would come to visit with kids, if she knew them or not, she made sure they had a sucker or rice krispie bar. She worked at the Belfield Locker Plant, Dickinson Laundry and babysat for various teachers.
She loved to garden and nobody could make chicken noodle soup, krautnip, shoop-noodles, paprikash soup like she could. She loved to watch both college and NBA basketball on tv when her games were on, no one got the controls. She enjoyed old time music and loved to dance Polka with her brother Roy at the age seven.
Dolores is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Keith) Oe; granddaughters, Kimberly (Justin) Redetzke and Kayleen (Rich) Wentz; great-grandchildren, Trista Wentz, Shantel Wentz, Audrey Oe, Jasmine Redetzke, Rachel Redetzke, Dalen Redetzke, Emmett Wentz and Stella Wentz; one brother-in-law, Ervin Godes, three sisters-in-law, Shirley Godes, Ann Conlon and Lorraine Godes.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Reinhard Godes on February 16, 2014; parents; four brothers, George, John, Roy and Ben; five sisters, Rose, Cecilia, Albertina, Kunie and Christine.
