Frank Dowhaniuk, 83, Dickinson, died Monday, June 13, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Frank’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ron Keller presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Frank Dowhaniuk was born September 7, 1932 at Belfield, the son of George and Agnes (Pavlenko) Dowhaniuk. He was raised and educated in the Belfield area. Frank enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably during the Korean Conflict from March 4, 1952 to February 22, 1954.
Frank was united in marriage to Agnes Heidt on October 12, 1954 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Belfield. He worked as an auto mechanic throughout his life. He was owner of West End Enco, Queen City Cab, and for 32 years owned and operated Frank’s Garage.
He was a member of the Eagles, Elks, AmVets, American Legion, VFW, St. Anthony, Ukrainian Cultural Institute, and Billings County Historical Society. He loved watching rodeos, listening to old time music, fishing, making beautiful woodwork projects, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frank is survived by his wife of 61 years, Agnes; their three children, Darlene (Dowhaniuk) Steffan, Bismarck, Rodney (Janel) Dowhaniuk, Dickinson, and Eugene (Karen) Dowhaniuk, Dickinson; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Lindi) Steffan, Bradley (Karmen) Steffan, Derek (Jessica) Dowhaniuk, Cole Dowhaniuk, Ryan Dowhaniuk, and Savannah (Josh) Reed; five great-grandchildren, Henry Steffan, Harlow Steffan, Nora Steffan, Madilyn Hofer, and Mason Hofer; three siblings, Mike (Claudia) Dowhaniuk, El Paso, Texas, Alice Roshau, Dickinson, and Max Dowhaniuk, Ellsworth, Wisc.; and two sisters-in-law, Mickey Dowhaniuk and Clara Dowhaniuk. He was preceded in death by his dad, George; mother, Agnes Dowhaniuk-Zeller; siblings and in-laws, Anton (Holly) Dowhaniuk, Harry Dowhaniuk, Jeanette DeBauche, Alex Dowhaniuk, and Ralph Roshau.
