Robert L. “Bob” Metz, 69, Taylor, died peacefully Wednesday, February 17, 2016 with his family at his side following a courageous battle with multiple myeloma at CHI St. Joseph’s, Dickinson. Bob’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Heart. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary & vigil at 3 p.m., with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.

He was born in Dickinson on May 13, 1946 to parents Steve and Margaret (Zentner) Metz. Bob grew up on his family farm located southwest of South Heart. He graduated from South Heart High School in 1964. After graduation, Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966. He was a field wireman/ artillery specialist for the 2nd Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas. He was discharged honorably in 1968.

In 1971 Bob married his first wife Linda Decker with whom he had six children. Bob was a carpenter by trade and took great pride in his work. In May of 1991, due to an economic decline, Bob moved to Bozeman, Mont. to continue his trade. In 1995 Bob returned to North Dakota and bought a home in Taylor with his second wife Theresa Strilchuk. They opened the “Sit –N– Bull” bar in 1998. After 17 years due to Bob’s declining health, they decided to sell the bar.

Bob loved people and it showed with every interaction you had with him. He loved to tell jokes and had a great sense of humor. Bob loved to hunt and enjoyed nature. Above all, our dad was a wonderful father and a loving husband. Bob supported the American Legion and was active with the Taylor City Council. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Bob is survived by his wife, Theresa Metz; his six children; DesaRae (Zane) Stearns, Port Orchard, Wash., Bobby Metz, Prescott, Ariz., Joel (Trista) Metz, Bellingham, Wash., Jessica (Jacob) Brinkman, St. Paul, Minn., Lorissa (Lonnie) Goff, Lovington N.M., and Alicia (Richard) Mehrer, Dickinson; five brothers, John (Barb) Metz, South Heart, Albert (Sharon) Metz, Dickinson, Harvey (Joy) Metz, Aberdeen, S.D., Tom (Dianne) Metz, South Heart, and Howard Metz, Austin, Texas; four sisters, Agnes Custer, Dickinson, Mildred Robison, Cheyenne Wyo., Alice Pajorlie, Kearney, Neb., and Linda (Marty) Buzalsky, Aberdeen S.D.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Margaret Metz; two brothers, Adolph and James Metz; three sisters, Janice Slater, Bernice Heiser, Eileen Rykowsky.
