Johanna Messer, 89, Dickinson, formerly of Richardton died Monday, January 18, 2016 at CHI St. Joseph’ Health, Dickinson. Johanna’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton, with Fr. Thomas Wordekemper as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary/prayer service at 6:30 p.m., Friday, at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Johanna Dolechek was born June 5, 1926 on the family farm south of Dickinson, the daughter of Valentine and Anna (Huschka) Dolechek. She was educated through the Frenzel Country School near their home.
Johanna was united in marriage to Val T. Messer on October 18, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. Together they farmed until 1986, remaining on the farm until 1994 when they moved into Dickinson. She later made Benedict Court her home in 2007.
She had belonged to the German-Hungarian Club, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, looking at photographs and playing bingo.
Johanna is survived by her children, Marvin (Laura) Messer, Richardton, JoAnn (Ken) Goldade, Mandan, and Annette (Lorin) Kubishta, Pendleton, Ore.; 17 grandchildren, Wade and Thomas Messer, Martin, Michael (Maria), Brian, Kimberly (Brandon) Muscha, Wyatt, Angela, Joseph, Peter, Theresa and Christiana Goldade, Sarah (fiancé-Justin Blatner), Daniel, John, Samuel and Andrew Kubishta; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Ralph (Katie) Dolechek, Dickinson, and Pauline (David) Sadowsky, Dickinson; and sisters-in-law, Leona Dolechek, Dickinson, Rose Mary Dolechek, New England, and Theresa Messer, Dickinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Val, on September 13, 2004; her parents; her in-laws, Thomas and Rose Messer; brothers, George, Christ, and one in infancy; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Emma Messer, Nick and Lorraine Messer, Eva Messer, and Frank Messer.
