Rose Cinder was born September 11, 1920 on the family farm near New Hradec, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Binstock) Cinder. The family moved southeast of Belfield where she was raised and educated. She attended country school and graduated from Belfield High School. She then went on to attend Dickinson State Teachers College and earned her teaching certificate.

On July 23, 1944, Rose was united in marriage to Donald J. O’Brien at St. Matthias Church, Huntington Park, Calif., while Don was serving in the military. Rose had taught school in area country schools prior to and following their marriage. In the spring of 1946, Don and Rose bought the J. Harold Johnson ranch in Billings County, where they ranched for 35 years and raised their 12 children. In 1981, they retired and moved into Belfield.

Rose loved cooking and baking, traveling and taking special events trips, growing flowers, working on jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She had a love of learning. She did plenty of sewing and mending while raising the “dirty dozen”. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters, the Pioneer Birthday Club, Belfield Senior Citizens, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
