Neal F. Shewmaker, 63, Dickinson, died on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home. Abiding by his wishes there will be no services held.
Neal was born in San Bonito, Texas on October 15, 1952 to Bert and Anna Louise (Beamish) Shewmaker. Growing up, Neal lived in many places until his parents finally settled in Grand Forks, while he was in elementary school. Neal stayed in Grand Forks and eventually met his wife, Doreen Overby-Bentz, and they married on May 7, 1976.
In June 1981 the family moved to Dickinson as Neal took a job at Dan Porter Motors in the parts department. It was there he remained until he was no longer able to work this past May. In addition to his job, Neal loved, and hated, golfing and bowling. On the golf course, Neal was one-half of the duo, known as Grouchy and Grumpy.
Neal is survived by his wife, Doreen; two children, Sean (Stacey) Bentz, Dickinson, and Dawn Shewmaker, Boston, Mass.; three grandchildren, Aaron, KayLee, and Logan. He is also survived by various in-laws; two sisters; three brothers; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, the majority of who still reside in Texas.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made in Neal’s name to hospice care or an organization/charity focused on cancer.
Uncle Bruce, you and Dad can golf together once again. But no fighting over who gets to drive the golf cart!!
