SSgt. Shaun S. Dirkach, USMC (Ret), 38, Dunn Center, died Sunday, April 26, 2015 near his home. Shaun’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Pastor Cal Oraw officiating.
Shaun joined the Marine Corps directly after high school in 1995. He was stationed in Hawaii from 1995 to 1999 in the infantry field. During his tour in Hawaii, Shaun deployed to Japan multiple times. He reenlisted in 1999 as a mechanic and stayed in Hawaii until 2002. His next duty station was at a reserve unit in Richmond, Va. from 2002-2004. In 2004 he was stationed at Parris Island as a Drill Instructor at 3rd Battalion, where he trained recruits to become Marines. In 2007, Shaun went to Camp Lejeune, where he spent time as a mechanic and hazardous materials handler. Shaun retired from the Marine Corps in September of 2013 as a Staff Sargent with 18 years of dedicated service to his country.
Shaun loved riding four wheelers, dirt bikes and mountain biking. He also enjoyed surfing, fishing and was an avid reader. He had an infectious laugh and was always up for an adventure. Shaun always loved a good Douglas Adams quote, Calvin and Hobbs comic, and any television show that could make him laugh. He spent his summers volunteering at church teaching AWANA and children’s bible camp. Shaun was a loving father, friend and amazing person who will be greatly missed by the many people who were blessed to have known him.
Shaun is survived by his five children Ethan Agre, Andrew Dirkach, Grace Dirkach, Jillian Dirkach and Chasen Dirkach; siblings Bernie Kellison, Daniel Hager, Christopher Hager, Travanti Dirkach and Molly Dirkach; and parents Darcy Dirkach and Linda Colclasure.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Fischer House or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
