Dennis Paul Lutz, 66, New England, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Funeral services for Dennis will be at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, New England, with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating. Inurnment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the New England American Legion Anton Ulijohn Post 66. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church.

Dennis Paul Lutz was born April 19, 1948 in Dickinson, the son of Ralph and Hazel (Johnson) Lutz. He grew up on the family farm south of New England where he attended the Strehlow Township School through the 7th grade, and then New England Public High School, graduating in 1966. He then went on to attend Dickinson State College.

Dennis joined the United States Navy and served honorably from August 26, 1968 to February 4, 1972.

Dennis married Rita (Schmitt) Bell on June 23, 1973 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church. They made their home in New England where he farmed and later drove truck. He took over the family farm in 1977, and eventually retiring from trucking while working for TMI in Dickinson.

He was a lifetime member of the New England American Legion Anton Ulijohn Post 66, the Elks Lodge 1137, and Our Redeemer’s Lutheran, and a past member of the 40 et 8. He enjoyed playing cards, games, bowling, and especially socializing with his friends.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Rita; their three daughters, Kellye (Joe) Buettner, Norfolk, Neb., Cheri (Scott) Holden, Hebron, and Jody (Chad) Buckingham, Piedmont, S.D.; three granddaughters, Ashley Holden, McKenzie Buettner, and Madison Buettner; sister, Sandra Strommen, Dickinson; and brothers, Scott (Lani) Lutz, Brentwood, Calif., Jeffrey (Candice) Lutz, Dickinson, Brad (Elmir) Lutz, Valenzia, Calif., and Greg (Val) Lutz, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and his twin brother, Durand “Randy” Lutz.
