Leona Hatzenbuhler, 82, Dickinson, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family. Leona’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ralph Stockert presiding.
Leona V. Decker was born May 12, 1932, on the family farm south of Belfield, the daughter of John P. and Barbara (Fichter) Decker. She was raised and educated south of Belfield, having attended country grade school.
Leona was united in marriage to mike Hatzenbuhler on June 8, 1954, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. They made their home in Dickinson where they raised their six children. She was a stay at home mother, who also babysat and day cared for other families children.
She belonged to the St. Anthony Club, the Eagles, and the auxiliaries of the VFW, DAV and American Legion. She enjoyed and loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, doing needlework, paint embroidery, playing cards, putting picture albums together, and bowling.
Leona is survived by her husband, Mike; their six children, DuWayne (Leah Pavick) Hatzenbuhler, Ken Hatzenbuhler, Kevin Hatzenbuhler, Debbie (Tom) Roller, Blaine Hatzenbuhler, and Tim (Jeanne) Hatzenbuhler, all of Dickinson; three grandchildren, Teia (fiance’-Jon Hoffart) Roller, Shealynn Roller, and Stephen Pavick; and one brother, Ted (Marian) Decker, Belfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant sister, Eva Decker.
Leona was a breast cancer survivor. The family would like to especially thank Julie, Eleanor, Helen, Rudy, Bethol and Michele, for taking the time to assist many ways.
