George F. Hassebrock, 98, Dickinson, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society, Bismarck. George’s funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. Gaylund Olson officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John-United Church of Christ Cemetery, Hebron. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will continue on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service.

George F. Hassebrock was born May 22, 1916 near Hebron, the son of William H. and Anna (Treiber) Hassebrock. He was raised and educated on the family farm northwest of Hebron, and even though his formal education was only through the eigth grade, he was extremely well read, self-educated and a very knowledgeable man. A creative thinker on any subject.

George was united in marriage to Marjorie Kruger, on June 17, 1945 at St. John-United Church of Christ, Hebron. He loved the land and was a farmer his entire life. He and Marjorie purchased the Cozy Lunch Restaurant in Dickinson, and operated it from 1947 to 1963. He then worked at Hauck’s Mill Work, Carlson Homes, and eventually at Liberty National Bank as their buildings and maintenance manager. He retired in 1983.

He always enjoyed farming, and had a talent for and love of woodworking. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, square dancing, and playing pinochle. He truly loved to drive Marjorie anywhere she wanted to go for a shopping trip. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and belonged to the Eagles for many years. George will be remembered as a man of kindness, generosity, strength, wisdom and knowledge, and gentleness.

George is survived by his sons, Alan (Jan) Hassebrock, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Larry (Gloria) Hassebrock, Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Jill (Tom) Hasling, Karen (Abel) Ramon, Jason (Karissa) Hassebrock, Kristine Hassebrock, Blaine (Sheila) Hassebrock, Michael (Melissa) Hassebrock, and Eric (Sarah) Hassebrock; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Helen Hassebrock, Denver, Colo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie on March 22, 2006; his parents; five siblings, Carl, Gust, Albert, Oscar, and Lorraine; two infant siblings, Esther and Tony; and his daughter-in-law, Shirley Hassebrock.
