Alfred J. Obrigewitch, 90, Belfield, died Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Alfred’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield, with Fr. William Ruelle as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue at the church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary & vigil at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to services at the church.
Alfred Joseph Obrigewitch the son of Joseph M. and Genevieve (Weisgerber) Obrigewitch was born June 8, 1924 in his grandparents mud house on a farm north of Belfield in Billings County. He was raised, educated and lived in the Belfield area his entire life. He worked with his father on the farm from the age of 13 until he was 39. Alfred then bought the Foster place and with his brother Pat and his sons they farmed and ranched, raising Black Angus cattle, haying and putting up bales. He always kept the neatest and most clean farm. He then sold his place and bought a shop north of Belfield where he also lived.
Alfred spent many years taking care of his mother. He entered St. Benedict’s Health Center in February 2008. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed going to rodeos with his rodeo club, riding horse, collecting, and the gatherings at branding time.
Alfred loved his family, looked forward to his mother’s home cooked German meals, spending time with his nieces and nephews, holiday gatherings and get-to-gathers with is “big big family”. He will be dearly missed!
Alfred is survived by his siblings, Tillie Woodcock, Dinuba, Calif., Florence DiBenedetto, Portland, Ore., Gen Becker, Banks, Ore., and Pat (Betty) Obrigewitch, Belfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert, Joe, and Ted; nephews, Jamie Obrigewitch, Tom Woodcock, and Billie Joe Shypkoski; and brothers-in-law, Ray Woodcock, Benny DiBenedetto, and Don Becker.
