Marian Catherine Bleth, 87, Dickinson, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Marian’s funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 13, 2015 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Fr. Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Gladstone. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, and will continue on Friday from 8 a.m. to service time.
Marian was born to Frank and Veronica (Gotterbarm) Martin on November 5, 1927. She was raised on a farm northeast of Gladstone, and was educated in Gladstone. After attending Dickinson State College she received her teaching certificate and taught country school. Marian was united in marriage to John G. Bleth in Gladstone on March 25, 1950. They spent one year in Bemidji, Minn., and returned to Gladstone to raise a family of seven children. They resided in Gladstone for 50 years, moving to Dickinson in 2001.
Marian was proud of her family. She was a wonderful cook and hosted many memorable family get-togethers. She was never happier than when the house was full for the holidays. Although never taking a lesson, a special gift she enjoyed was the ability to play the piano. Marian enjoyed being Grandma to each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all remember the weight of her candy drawer. She will be missed by all.
Marian is survived by her children; Connie (Tom) McCarty, Grafton, Lynn Leiss, Minneapolis, Minn., Gary (Susan) Bleth, Dickinson, Joel (Nancy Samson) Bleth, Dickinson, Beth (David) Rasmusson, Aberdeen, S.D., and Craig (Lisa) Bleth, Bismarck; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Veronica (Alfred) Dassinger, Dickinson, Marlene Moore, Worland, Wyo., Elaine (Bob) Burns, Yakima, Wash., Joyce (Allen) Kostelecky, Bothell, Wash.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Auld, Rockford, Minn., Edwin Lefor, Dickinson, Allen Rust, Tomball, Texas, Jim (Zola) Bleth, Thief River Falls, Minn., Kathleen Yost, Norwalk, Calif., Bill (Ginny) Bleth, Forsyth, Mont., Marian Bleth, Bemidji, Minn., and Mary Ann Weaver, Seminole, Fla.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband John; son Alan; son-in-law Alan Leiss; her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Mary Bleth; sisters Dora Schummer, Eva Focht, Margaret Haysom, Josephine Rust, Evelyn Sickler, and Delores Lefor; brothers Frank Martin, Peter Martin, Anton Martin, and Leroy Martin; and brothers and sisters-in-law Frank Schummer, Ernest Focht, Ray Haysom, Andrew Sickler, Lena Martin, Ethelyn Martin, Elvira Martin, Jesse Moore, Edna Nelson, Lyle Nelson, Ron Yost, Richard Bleth, Marlene Bagwell, and Wilford Weaver.
