Monica Berger, the daughter of Joseph and Wilhelmina (Lantz) Berger was born on October 20, 1925 in Dickinson. She was raised on the family farm north of Schefield, where she attended country school, grades one through eight. She then went to work at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson. From there she went to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., to work as a kitchen aide.
Monica married Peter P. Fischer on June 28, 1950, at St. Pius Catholic Church, Schefield. For over 25 years she worked along side Pete at United Auto Parts, as a bookkeeper, until 1986 when they both retired.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her true treasures. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, cook for her family, gardening and canning. She enjoyed teaching all her grandchildren to play cards. Monica enjoyed spending summers with Pete and family at their lake home, boating and fishing, chasing that ever elusive walleye. She loved to bird watch out her dinning room window, and the companionship of her neighbors. Her sense of humor and her amazing faith in God carried her through good times and bad, and she will be truly missed by all.
