Duane P. Wanner, 66, New England died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Duane’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England with Fr. Biju Chitteth celebrating. Interment will follow at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Deacon Victor Dvorak presiding. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to service time on Friday. Military Honors will be provided by the New England American Legion, Anton Ulijohn Post #66.
Duane Paul Wanner was born November 1, 1947 at Dickinson to Paul and Edith (Jirges) Wanner. Duane was raised and educated in New England. Following graduation from St. Mary’s High School, Duane went into the US Army and served from February 1968 until February 1970. Following his honorable discharge, Duane returned to New England where he began a long and loved career as a truck driver. In 1981 Duane moved to California and lived there for 12 years, returning to New England in 1993. During this time he drove truck for various trucking companies in California and North Dakota. Duane married Sheila Jensen on June 14, 1996 in Dickinson. Duane loved his family and enjoyed time with them but he was always anxious to return to driving.
Duane is survived by his wife, Sheila, New England; one daughter, Tonya Killingsworth, Eufaula, Ala.; two step-sons, Paul Wolfinger, New England and Brandon Wolfinger, Dickinson; four grandchildren; eight siblings, Harvey (Jean) Wanner, New Hradec, Debbie (Jim) Fogarty, Belle Plaine, Minn, Terry Wanner, Dickinson, Marietta (Don) Nygaard, Texas, Dale Wanner, New England, Jaculin (Ray) Kraft, Dickinson, Paulette (James) Krebs, New England, and Janel (Bryan) Scheile, Minot. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Joseph.
