Arnold J. Steiner, 84, Dickinson, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at his home. Arnold’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m., Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Entombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ron Keller presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Arnold J. Steiner was born October 7, 1929 in Mott, the son of Fred and Monica (Wetzstein) Steiner. He was raised on the family farm north of Mott. He attended country school, Assumption Abbey High School and two years at Wahpeton State School of Science.
He was inducted into the United States Army, serving honorably for two years in Japan and Korea. Arnold returned to North Dakota and was united in marriage to Monica Wandler on October 18, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson.
Arnold began working at Mann’s Automotive, Steffes Cabinet Shop, and then had spent 18 years at Montgomery Wards, and 22 years at Woolworth’s. During this time he was also self-employed as a flooring and carpet technician for many years.
He was a past usher and 60 year member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus, a past member of the St. Anthony and German Hungarian clubs. Arnold enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping, working in the yard and repairing small engines. He was a jack of all trades.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Monica; son Allen (Tami) Steiner, Dickinson; daughter, Wanda (Kenneth) Weflen, Dickinson; six grandchildren, Tina (John) Parkson, Jeremy (Chelsey) Stradley, Aric Steiner, Devin Steiner, Jennifer (Eric Carlson) Weflen, and Amber Weflen; six great-grandchildren, Brianna and Rebecca Parkson, Christopher and Elizabeth Stradley, Halle Weflen-Stephens, and Kaysen Carlson; brother, Walt (Rita) Steiner; sister, Mildred (Leo) Kuntz; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Dale Steiner; his parents; brothers, John, William, Charles, Richard, and Clarence; and sisters, Matilda and Dorothy.
