Margaret L. Koffler, 95, Dickinson, died Monday, March 31, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Margaret’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, April 7, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary & vigil at 3 p.m., with Deacon Al Schwindt presiding.
Margaret L. Kessel was born March 15, 1919, at Great Falls, Mont., the daughter of Joseph and Ottilia (Herauf) Kessel. The family moved to Dickinson when she was at an early age, and she attended St. Joseph’s School. Classes were held in the basement of the church and then later moved to St. Joseph’s School after it was built. She graduated from Central High School.
On May 17, 1938, Margaret was united in marriage to Joseph Koffler at St. Joseph’s Church. They resided in Dickinson for 76 years together where they raised their five children. She had worked at various jobs, including, Berzel Bakery, and Dickinson’s Cab Company. In 1949, she and Joe opened the 22 Club in south Dickinson, and from there in 1979, Frontier Liquor was established. Margaret enjoyed visiting with her customers and friends she made over the years. She also enjoyed bookkeeping and family history.
Margaret is survived by her children, Richard (Judy) Koffler, Dickinson, Shirley Godes, Dickinson, Mike (Jeannie) Koffler, Bismarck, Darryl (Karen) Koffler, Bismarck, and Ron (Cindy) Koffler, Dickinson; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Catherine Steinke, Squim, Wash., Ludy Kostelecky, Spokane, Wash., Dorothy Kudrna, Dickinson, Christ (Terry) Kessel, Dickinson, George (Irene) Kessel, Dickinson, Ervin (Marilyn) Kessel, Dickinson; and sister-in-law, Pauline Kessel, Dickinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe on March 10, 2013; her parents; brothers, John (Evelyn), Frank and Ted; sister, Judy; son-in-law, Clem Godes; brothers-in-law, George, Joe and Laudie.
