Loretta O. Shipp, 62, Taylor, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Health Center. Loretta’s memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Taylor Lutheran Church, Taylor, with Rev. Bob Wittstruck officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Loretta O. Vaagen was born June 11, 1951 in Dickinson, the daughter of Merle and Marlys (Pletan) Vaagen. She was raised in Taylor and attended school there, graduating in 1969.
Loretta graduated from Dickinson State College with a B.S. degree in English and History. She worked for MDU for many years in Dickinson, Glasgow, Mont., and Bismarck. She then obtained her teaching credentials and taught in Sidney, Mont., and at Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, Texas for many years.
Due to failing health, she returned to North Dakota and resided in Taylor until her passing.
Loretta is survived by her mother, Marlys Vaagen, Taylor; her brother, Garold (Patsy) Vaagen, Harwood; her sisters, Carol Gjermundson, Indio, Calif., Peggy Vaagen, Bismarck, Paula (Ray) Bluemer, Mt. Home, Idaho; and brother-in-law, Leon Marcusen, Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her father, Merle Vaagen; her twin sister, Loris Marcusen; and one brother, Myles Vaagen.
