Terrence “Terry” Tomchuk, 57, Dickinson, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Terry’s Parastas will be at 9 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Belfield, with Fr. Taras Miles presiding. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Leonard Kordonowy presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Terrence John Tomchuk was born September 20, 1956 in Dickinson, the son of William and Rose (Demianiw) Tomchuk. He was raised and educated in South Heart, graduating from South Heart High School in 1975. Following high school he moved to California and began working in the seismograph field. He worked throughout the United States and had also spent a year in Turkey. Terry returned to North Dakota in the mid 1980’s, where he began farming with his dad, and he also continued seismographing.
Terry was united in marriage to Patricia Maershbecker on July 1, 1987 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. They moved to Sidney, Mont., where he began working in the oilfield. In 1991 the family returned to Dickinson and Terry began Organic Farming. In 1995 he began working for BNSF Railroad as a maintenance of way worker. Terry created his business I Spy Tech in 2000, and in 2012 he began working in the power plant at Dickinson State University.
He belonged to the St. Anthony Club, the Eagle’s Club, and Knights of Columbus. In his spare time he loved to go fishing, playing cards with his friends, and especially spending time with his family.
Terry is survived by his wife, Patty; their two daughters, Kacey (Kelly Sykora) Tomchuk, Bismarck, and Jenna (Dylan Slunaker) Tomchuk, Dickinson; four siblings, Bruce (Rita), Dickinson, Bryan (Kathy), Beulah, Mary Rose (Mark), Lakewood, Colo., and Chris (Marla), Pahrump, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ivan; and his in-laws, Elsie and Mathias Maershbecker.
