Arlen W. Zalesky, 76, Dickinson, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Funeral service’s for Arlen will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will follow the service and be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be on Friday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ron Keller presiding. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8 a.m. to service time.
Arlen W. Zalesky was born December 24, 1937 in Dickinson, the son of Alex W. and Pauline (Rodakowski) Zalesky. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, having attended Dickinson High School. He served honorably in the North Dakota National Guard from 1954 to 1963.
Arlen was united in marriage to Lucille Lupo on July 11, 1959, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. They made their home in Dickinson where he first worked for the Ray Hotel as a desk clerk. Arlen and Lucille purchased the Shamrock Bar, and owned and operated it for 20 years, when health issues forced him to sell.
He loved to work in his yard, attend and watch sporting events, with his greatest enjoyment coming from spending time with his two granddaughters. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, and a past member of the St. Anthony, German/Hungarian, and Eagle’s Clubs.
Arlen is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucille; their daughter, Michelle (Ross) Engraf, Hettinger; two granddaughters, Marissa and Alexandra Engraf, Hettinger; three siblings, Richard (Janette) Zalesky, Dickinson, Marjorie Anderson, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Bonnie (Dean) Mack, Bowman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Helene (Clifford) Casteel; brother-in-law, Noble Anderson; and nephew, Doug Zalesky.
