Dorothy Sigl, 81, Richardton, joined our Heavenly Father and was reunited with sons, Dan and Jim on Monday, June 24, 2013 the 60th wedding anniversary for she and her husband Ray, at the Good Samaritan Society, Bismarck. Dorothy’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Fr. Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the church, with a rosary & vigil at 3 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Dorothy was born January 3, 1932, near Bentley, the sixth of ten children to Mary and Adam Lampl. Dorothy married Ray Sigl at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, on June 24, 1953. Together they made their home 12 miles north of Richardton.
Dorothy’s lifelong as a nurse for 35 plus years allowed her to serve others in the strongest capacity as a care giver. It was not uncommon for a neighbor or friend to call and seek Dorothy’s advice when faced with a medical situation. Nor was it uncommon to hear how our mother sat with a family who was experiencing the deepest pain of losing a loved one. She loved old and young alike, but she was extremely passionate about the newborn children. Her strong love and nurturance were passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They all loved and admired her dearly.
She took an active role in supporting all of her family, and this was no easy task with seven children, 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was always very proud of them and was their biggest fan in all they pursued. Dorothy herself was a very private (humble) person but with many talents. One of her favorite hobbies was bowling. She loved the competition and traveling with friends to tournaments throughout the state. Her cooking and baking was unmatched as well as her beautiful flowers and prosperous garden. Each fall she would provide her family with enough garden goods to last the whole year round. Cooking and baking were Dorothy’s signature of love and friendship to others. Each child that visited was guaranteed to leave with a bounty of their favorite fresh baked or cooked items. It can be truthfully said that the Sigls never ran out of occasions for family dinners and Dorothy never passed up the opportunity to pick up the check. She enjoyed Sunday dinners, cards with friends, and the knitting or crocheting of baby blankets, baby towels…
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her husband, Ray of 60 years; her five children, Raymond Jr. (Carol) Sigl, Richardton, Jerry (Adele) Sigl, Menoken, Diane (Greg) Schlosser, Mandan, Annette (Greg) Link, Bismarck, and Julie (Kelly) Wetzel, Minot; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Terry Dickinson, Albuquerque, N.M., Rose Hagen, Milwaukee, Wisc., Betty Ott, Dickinson, Leonard (Sue) Lampl, South Carolina, and Marge (Keith) Ganzer, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her sons, Daaniel and James Sigl; two brothers, John and Tony Lampl; two sisters, Mary Ollinger, and Ann Kleinmaus (who died on the same day as Dorothy); and her parents, Adam and Mary Lampl.
