Raymond Kessel, 80, Dickinson, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Raymond’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the Mass. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Deacon Dallas Carlson presiding.
Raymond Kessel was born June 1, 1932 in Dickinson, the son of Raphael and Margaret (Klein) Kessel. He was raised and educated in Dickinson. Raymond served honorably in the United Army from June 20, 1952 to February 1, 1958.
He returned to Dickinson and was united in marriage to Frances Weisz on July 9, 1959 in Dickinson. Raymond worked as over the road truck driver for many years and then went to work for Huegulen’s Truck Stop in Belfield until his retirement.
Raymond belonged to the St. Anthony Club and the German Hungarian Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family holidays, walking, spending time outdoors, playing bingo, and watching football.
Raymond is survived by his three daughters, Diane (Marlin) Morel, Aberdeen, S.D., Cindy (Dennis) Miller, Dickinson, and Brenda (Gordon) Meyer, Dickinson; nine grandchildren, Mandy (Nathan) Wegleitner, Kelly Morel, Marissa Morel, Kelsey Morel, Cody Miller, Kylen Miller, Amanda Meyer, Sheldon Meyer, and Breanna Meyer; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Madison and Haylee Wegleitner; three siblings, Richard Kessel, Dickinson, Robert (Carol) Kessel, Bismarck, and Betty Schocker, Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nick, Jackob, Tony and Edwin “Arb”; and sisters, Rose Kessel, Veronica Dukart, and Margaret Anderson.
