Doris Elaine Hermes was born September 13, 1927, the daughter of Nick and Pauline (Geiss) Hermes. She was raised on the family farm in rural Glen Ullin and attended country school until age 10, when the family moved into Glen Ullin. She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and graduated from Glen Ullin High School. After graduation Doris moved to Bismarck and then St. Paul, Minn., where she was employed at Sears Roebuck & Co. mail order office, before returning to Glen Ullin. Doris was employed at Marion Manor Healthcare Center until she retired.
Because Doris’ brother, James Hermes, was in the Navy during WW2, she was a proud member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and belonged to Bridge Club’s for many years. Doris’ greatest joy was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild. Seeing them always cheered her up. She cherished spending time with them and watching them grow-up. She always tried to attend their school and sporting events. Every year she looked forward to flying to California to spend time with her youngest grandson. She will be deeply missed by all those that loved her.
Blessed to have shared her life are her daughters, Pattie (Arnie) Schaff, Bismarck, Judy (Allan) Brandt, Dickinson, Donna (Gene) Schafer, Bismarck; and her son, Jerry (Donna) Schneider, Hebron; her eight grandchildren, Lana (Chad) Jahner, Regent, Shawn (Tracy) Schaff, Bismarck, Geno (Blanca) Schafer, Las Angeles, Calif., Tanya (Dan) Hopfauf, Bismarck, Bobbi Jo (Myron) Schaff, Hebron, Casey (Bobbi) Schneider, Hebron, Corey (Emily) Schneider, Hebron, and Jeff Portney, Paso Robles, Calif.; thirteen great-grandchildren, Nate (Jocey) Jahner, Dickinson, Courtney Jahner and fiancé Andrew Reule, Dickinson, Derek Schaff, Missoula, Mont., Deven Schaff, Bismarck, Madison and Mason Hopfauf, Bismarck, Sierra and Landon Schaff, Hebron, MiKayla and Ryan Schneider, Hebron, Riley and Reid Schneider, Hebron, Gia Schafer, Las Angeles, Calif.; and one great-great-granddaughter, Taylin Jahner, Dickinson.
