Valentine Jahner, 80, Mott, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, with his loving family at his side. Val’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Regent, with Fr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Mott. Visitation will be on Monday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue at the church at 6 p.m. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Monday at the church, with Deacon Don Gion presiding.

Valentine Jahner was born April 20, 1932, on the family farm northwest of Mott, the son of Simon and Monica (Doll) Jahner.

Val married Mildred Leidholm, on May 12, 1958, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, rural Mott. He worked the family dairy farm until his retirement. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, shooting pool, throwing horseshoes, and best of all playing poker with friends and family. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Eagles Club. He was an avid fan of the baseball and basketball teams from New York.

Val is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mildred; six sons, Larry (Verlaine) Jahner, Bismarck, Roger (Renae) Jahner, Mott, Curtis Jahner, Mott, Bernie (Sharon) Jahner, Dickinson, Lyle (Sarah) Jahner, Mott, and Brent (Nikki) Jahner, Dickinson; two daughters, Brenda (John) Kouba, Bismarck, and Vicki (Eric) Fuglister, Lakeville, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Randy (Jane) Jahner, Lemmon, S.D., and Frank (Dianna) Jahner, Bottineau; one sister, Mary Welsch, Dickinson; two brothers-in-law, George Hanchett, Spring Valley, Calif., and John Benz, Dickinson; and one sister-in-law, Rose Jahner, Missoula, Mont. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sister-in-law, Mike Jahner, and Pete (Patricia) Jahner; two sisters, Veronica Benz and Gladys Hanchett; and two grandchildren, Shanna and Louis Jahner.
