Orris E. Green, 76, formerly of Halliday, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at his home in Killdeer. Orris’ memorial service will at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Halliday Assembly of God, Halliday, with Pastor Karen Dvirnak officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
Orris was born July 1, 1935 at Lynn, Mass., to Theodore and Jennie (Cloutman) Green. Orris moved with his family to Danvers, Mass., and then to Middleton, ., where he attended school. Orris graduated from Salem Trade School, Salem, Mass in 1953 with a certificate in woodworking/carpentry. Orris worked at the Pitman/Brown Lumber Yard for two years before going to work for Bostik Division (Black and Decker). In 1958 Orris entered the U.S. Army and was honorable discharged in 1960, Orris served 13 months in Korea. On May 6, 1960 Orris married Margaret Banks at Wenham, Mass. Following his discharge Orris went back to Bostik until 1980 when he began working for Pentucket Regional Junior High School, West Newbury, Mass., until 1991 when he and Margaret moved to N.D. and he returned to his woodworking roots making toys for sale and charity. The toys Orris made have been shipped as far as Germany and Africa, and many children have received toys as free gifts. Orris and Margaret lived north of Dunn Center from 1991 until 2011 when due to Orris’ illness they moved to an apartment in Killdeer.
Orris had been a Sunday school teacher at Wenham Baptist Church and Junior Church coordinator. After moving to N.D.he taught classes at Manning Community Church and Halliday Assembly of God.
Orris is survived by his wife, Margaret; six children, Dixie Green, Billings, Mont., Linda Green, Hampton, N.H., Preston (Tom) Green, Waltham, Mass., Rebecca Beal, South Hampton, N.H., Janis (John) Harris, Killdeer, and Orris “Eddie” (Jackie) Green Jr., Springfield, La.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sheldon and Earl (Sandra); and two sisters, Patricia Green and Ronda (Randall) Kelloway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert and one sister Janice Green. Memorials may be made in Orris’ name to; Home Health, Hill Top Home of Comfort, 95 Hill Top Dr., Killdeer, ND 58640.
