Elmond R. “Al” Lundgren, 94, Dickinson, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Al’s funeral service will be at 1 p.m., CT, Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, with Rev. Todd Olson officiating. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will follow the service at the church and will be provided by the Mohall American Legion Post 52. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, and from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 2 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. Roger Dieterle officiating.
Elmond Randolph Lundgren was born June 24, 1917 at Tolley, the son of John and Amanda (Brox) Lundgren. He was raised and educated in the Tolley area, having attended the Cilley Country School. He enlisted and served honorably in the United States Army from July 17, 1942 to December 8, 1945. After this he began working at General Motors in Flint, Mich., as an auto mechanic and diesel engineer.
Al married Estelle Wright on November 5, 1946 in Wolf Point, Mont., and then they made their home in Mohall. Al owned Lundgren Construction and the Mohall Ready Mix. In 2000, Al and Estelle moved to Dickinson.
He was a 58 year member of the Mohall American Legion, Zion Lutheran Church, and a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, and Dickinson, Mohall, Minot, and Mesquite, Nev. trap clubs. Al and Estelle travelled as a close-knit couple for 36 years to trap shoots in various states all over the United States and in Canada. He enjoyed trap shooting, especially with his grandsons and great-grandsons, hunting, gardening and woodworking. Al was proud of having started the Mohall Gun Club (which he ran for 25 years), and re-opening the Dickinson Gun Club in 2000 (which he ran for 11 years). Most recently he was honored to have the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC on the Roughrider Honor Flight in May 2011.
Al is survived by his wife of 65 years, Estelle; their two daughters, Shelby Hutton, Belfield, and Sharon (Al) Hutton, Richardton; five grandchildren, Kris (Kevin Kuntz) Hastings, Scott (Dina) Roberts, Shane Roberts, Craig (Lynn) Hastings, and Patti Kuntz; and four great-grandchildren, Caden Roberts, Devany Roberts, Aaron Kuntz and Jordan Kuntz. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charlie and Elias; and his sisters, Lillian Zeltinger, Agnes Alexander, Bernice Hellebust, and Jane Arneson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, or to the Mohall, Minot and Dickinson Gun Clubs.
