Irene Lothspeich, 83, of Dickinson, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Health Center after a long illness. Irene’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Irene Margaret Michels was born on December 24, 1928 to Peter and Veronica (Spillman) Michels on the family farm near Calio. She grew up in the Calio area and attended school there. She worked for neighbors and her sister Bertha for several years before working in Langdon at the JC Penney Store.
Irene married on June 3, 1954 to her husband of 57 Years Edward Lothspeich in Calio. They made their home in Cando, Grand Forks and finally in Dickinson, raising their four children. Irene worked at various jobs, retiring from K-mart. Irene loved to bake and collect recipes and cookbooks. She enjoyed reading magazines and watching game shows and listening to old time music.
She is survived by her husband Edward of Dickinson; children, Becky (Randy) Byzewski of Dickinson, Mark (Janelle) Lothspeich of Grand Forks, Patrick (Denette) Lothspeich of Bismarck, and Steven (Janelle) Lothspeich of Black Hawk, S.D.; grandchildren: Robyn (Chris) Manners, Renee (Calvin) Rehbein, Joshua, Jason, Eric, Lindsy, Seth, Jared, Zachary, Derek and Ashtyn Lothspeich; great-grandchildren: James and Carly Rehbein, Randy, Ericka, & Khloe Manners; sisters: her twin Madelyn (Don) Mootz of Lakota/Devils Lake, and Evelyn Stoxen of Safford, Ariz.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings and their spouses: Bertha (Bill) Schneider, Mary (George) Rohde, Aloys (Clara) Michels, Matilda Michels, Anthony “Tony” Michels, Leonard Michels, Leo Michels, Rose Ann (Fred) Phillips, Ernest (Lois) Michels, Wilford Michels and Laurel Stoxen.
