Leonard J. Marquart, 72, Dickinson, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Leonard’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Jeffrey Zwack as the celebrant and Fr Shannon Lucht as con-celebrant. Entombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a rosary and vigil at 6 p.m. with Deacon Jerry Volk presiding at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team.

Leonard Marquart was born January 26, 1939 at Dodge to Luke and Barbara (Voltz) Marquart. After completing his education Leonard joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1958. Leonard returned to Dickinson and married Martha Renner at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, on September 11, 1961. Leonard moved to Glendive, Mont., in 1966 and then to Missoula, Mont., where he worked as the parts manager for 93 Chrysler car dealer and Peterbilt. He and Martha returned to Dickinson in 1981 and he continued working until his retirement.

While living in Montana, Leonard loved to spend time outdoors going hunting, fishing, and camping. Leonard also enjoyed playing dice, marbles, pinochle, and going to rodeos, but time with his family was most dear to him. Leonard was also a great pet lover, especially his dog Patches.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Martha, Dickinson; four children, Rene (Rudy) Syminow, Dickinson, Brenda (Trent) Huston, Belfield, Les Marquart, Mandan, and Sheila Marquart, Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Tony (Sam), Hanna, Dana, and Cody Hlebechuk, and Eric, Levi, and Luke Shypkowski; one brother, Larry (Judy) Marquart, Glendive, Mont., and five sisters, Dorothy Wieland, Glendive, Marie Wieland, Dickinson, Donna (Harry) Wadnizak, Fargo, Dianna Johnson, Gillette, Wyo., and Theresa (Henry) Fichter, Gillette, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents Luke and Barbara and one son-in-law, Bill Hlebechuk and two brothers-in-law.
