Rosella Belland, 85, formerly of New England, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Rosella’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Peace Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Steven Schou officiating. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m., Tuesday.
Rosella Thomas, was born July 7, 1926 on the Thomas farm in Kennedy Township, near Reeder, the daughter of Peter W. and Erma Z. (Muth) Thomas. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in New England on May 25, 1944. She then attended Dickinson State Teachers College. Rosella taught school from 1944 to 1948 at DeSart and Enterprise School Districts.
Rosella married Reuben A. Belland on October 1, 1949 in Mott. They farmed and raised cattle together south of New England for 43 years, and in 2005 moved to Dickinson where they lived at Park Avenue Villa and Hawks Point prior to becoming residents of St. Luke’s Home in 2008.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, embroidery and making quilts. Her greatest pleasures came from spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Rosella is survived by her four children, Judy (Chuck) Babcock, St. Frances, Minn., Jane (Brian) Jesperson, Bismarck, Kent (Wanda) Belland, Bismarck and Bowman, and Shirley (Jeff) Kallenbach, Dickinson; 10 grandchildren, Jane and Brian’s children, Andrea, Alisa (Brian) Linné, Megan (Cody) Sletten and Luke; Kent and Wanda’s daughter, Emily; Shirley and Jeff’s children, David (Avin), Patrick, Kevin (Kellie), Joseph and Korey; two great-grandchildren, Kambree and Kyler Kallenbach (daughter and son of Kevin and Kellie). She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben on May 10, 2009; her parents; sisters, Ethel Urlacher, Grace Haller and Erma Thomas; brothers, Orville Thomas, Alex Thomas, Carl Thomas and Lawrence Thomas.
We loved her and will miss her immensely! Her kind and gentle spirit and loving presence will not be forgotten. We know God is welcoming her and saying “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
