Robert V. Urbanec, 81, Dickinson, died Friday, September 9, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family and his dog Max. Bob’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, New Hradec. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the mass. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.

Robert was born July 8, 1930 in Dickinson the son of Vincent and Agnes (Kostelecky) Urbanec. He was raised and educated in Dickinson. Bob had served honorably in the United States Army.

He and Janice Adamski were united in marriage on October 19, 1953 at South Heart. He has made his home in Dickinson where he was co-owner of Bogner Equipment, and worked security and maintenance at St. Joseph’s Hospital until retiring in 2002. Following retirement he loved his part-time job at Pheasant Country Golf Course.

Bob was a member of the Southside Gang, St. Anthony’s Club, and many bowling leagues. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, fishing, camping, golfing, and playing cards. Following sporting events and teams such as the Twins and Braves, especially his grandchildren’s events, and all the Dickinson schools. Bob was a practical jokester and enjoyed bringing joy to others. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and friend. Bob truly cherished his family.

Bob is survived by his special friend, Vicki Grosulak; four children, Brian (Gail) Urbanec, Dickinson, Perry (Karen) Urbanec, Mandan, Nancy (Al) Lynch, Dickinson, and Robby (Beth) Urbanec, Dickinson; his 10 grandchildren, John Urbanec, Marina (Evan) Culver, Brett Urbanec, Jennifer (Justin) Berger, Kelly Urbanec, Nathan (Karen) Lynch, Alicia Lynch, Michael Urbanec, Nicole Urbanec and Samantha Urbanec; one sister, Dorothy Urbanec, Corona, Calif.; and his companion Max the dog. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; daughter, Penny; brother, William; and his parents.
