Vernon N. Weigum, 79, Belfield, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with his brother, Al Weigum presiding. Inurnment will take place at the Belfield Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Vernon N. Weigum was born April 16, 1932 in Dickinson, the son of Albert and Verna (Schultz) Weigum. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, having graduated from Model High.
Vernon married Cheryl D. Rhoten on November 28, 1953 in Marysville, Kansas. He worked seismographing and at Union Carbide uranium mines in Wyoming and Belfield until getting hurt in 1971. They returned to the family farm south of Belfield where they have lived until the time of his death.
He enjoyed shooting pool, fishing, tinkering in the shop, making homemade wines, gardening, telling stories and the companionship of his special pals, Lucky, Sammy and Baby.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Cheryl; one son, Jay (Doretta) Weigum, Belfield; two grandsons, Jason (special friend-Maverick Montez) Weigum, and Justin (Hailey) Weigum; two great-grandchildren, Angel and Jadin; and three brothers, Clifford Weigum, Belfield, Wally (Carol) Weigum, Denver, Colo., and Albert (Carol) Weigum, Spokane, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel Weigum; sister, Evelyn Funk; son Vernon, Jr.; nephew, Forest Weigum; sister-in-law, Lenice Weigum; and great nephews, Sam Grenz and Ben Carlson.
