Alfred Kadrmas, 94, formerly of Fairfield, died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Alfred’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Belfield American Legion William C. Blair Post #144. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Bob Zent presiding.
Alfred was born January 23, 1917 at Snow, the son of Frank F. and Margaret (Kacelek) Kadrmas. He farmed in Billings County until entering the United States Army, where he served honorably from June 29, 1942 to May 30, 1945. Alfred served as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theatre during WW II, where he received three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and the Silver Star. Following his discharge he returned to the farm.
Alfred Married Katherine Stekar on April 19, 1945 in Wibaux, Mont. Together they farmed until retiring and moving into Dickinson. He and Katherine enjoyed 12 winters traveling to Arizona.
He belonged to the American Legion and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, playing games and woodworking. Bohemian music and speaking Bohemian was all part of his Bohemian heritage.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 66 years, Katherine; their three children, Carol (Russ) MacDonald, Richmond Hill, Ga., Glen (Susan) Kadrmas, Belfield, and Sherry Kadrmas, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Wendy (Jared) Kessel, Belfield, Dena (Brad) Sand, Dickinson, and Logan (Carla) MacDonald, Richmond Hill; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon, Chantel, Jarrett, Shane and Derek Kessel, Lauren Sand, and William MacDonald; and two sisters-in-law, Lena Kadrmas and Betty Kadrmas. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
