Jerome T. Praus, 86, Dickinson, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at his daughters home in Bismarck surrounded by his loving family. Jerome’s Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with his family presiding. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson in the spring. Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present during that time. Visitation will continue at Ladbury Funeral Service on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team.
Jerome T. Praus was born February 25, 1924, the son of Julius and Mary (Huschka) Praus on the family farm near Dickinson. He attended country school and St. Joseph’s School in Dickinson. He proudly served in World War II in the European-Africa- Middle Eastern Theatre from April 23, 1944 to July 1, 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He was one of “The Greatest Generation”.
He married Evon Igard on August 4, 1951, and they were blessed with four daughters. He worked in construction, as a mechanic, set REA poles and at the Dickinson Post Office, retiring in 1987, after 30 years. He raised Red Poll cattle and had a great love for horses. He was a member of the Dickinson Elks Club, a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Postal Workers Union #590. He was a friend to many and helped others with various projects: mechanics, harvesting, home improvements, etc.
Privileged to have shared his life are his wife, Evon, daughter, June (Lyle) Remmich-Wilen, grandson, Ryley (Meredith) Remmich, step-grandchildren, Kacey Wilen, Kody (Luke) Seelye, great-grandchildren, Chance, Jordan and Courtney Seelye. Daughter, Jerrilynn (Darrell) Farland, and granddaughter, Kaelynn Hecker. Daughter, Merralee (David) Morse, granddaughters, Melissa and Jessica Morse. Daughter, Kimberly (Paul) Chapman, grandson, Tyler and granddaughter, Brittani Chapman. Sisters, Rose Praus, Clementine (Ulric) Ficek, Anna Dukart and one brother, Frank (Eugenia) Praus, one aunt, Clementine Faller and a sister-in-law, Katherine Praus. He was a godfather to Frances Dukart, Vivian Herald and Edwin Praus. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Julius and Mary Praus, brothers, Tony, Vincent and Louie, sisters, Katherine Binstock, Agnes Dvorshak, Mary Morel, Margaret in infancy and his son-in-law, Reginald Hecker.
