Olga Zimmerman, 89, Dickinson, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at her home. Olga’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Dickinson with Pastor Brian Davidson officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at St. John’s Cemetery, Hebron. Visitation will be on Friday, beginning at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to service time on Saturday.

Olga Koepplin was born August 12, 1921 to Ludwig and Maria (Nickolaus) Koepplin at Elgin. She lived with her family on a farm south of Elgin by the Cannonball River, and later they moved to a farm east of Elgin, she was the second of 14 children. Olga spent most of time helping with farm chores. She married John Zimmerman at Elgin on June 15, 1941. Together they farmed south of Glen Ullin. They later moved to Hebron where John passed away on October 5, 1970, at that time Olga moved to Elgin. Sometime later, Olga moved to Dickinson where she could be closer to family. Olga first lived at Pioneer Haven Apartments where she enjoyed growing flowers. In October 2008, Olga moved to Frontier Apartments and no longer had a place to grow flowers outside but she continued raising houseplants.

In addition to growing flowers Olga enjoyed crocheting many different things which she loved giving to members of her family and her friends. She also enjoyed listening to Christian and Old Time Music. In her younger days, while living in Hebron, she raised chickens, geese, ducks, and guinea hens. Olga collected poultry knick knacks and salt and pepper shakers and until her eyesight began failing, she pieced many quilts.

Olga is survived by her two children, Aaron (Joyce) Zimmerman, Pierre, S.D. and Norma (Roger) Hirning, Dickinson; six grand children and nine great-grandchildren; ten brothers and sisters, Esther (Ralph) Walters, Irene Miller, Freda Yoder, Florence (Ervin) Fischer, Leona Nickolaus, Otto (Marlene) Koepplin, Pete (Ruby) Koepplin, George (Florence) Koepplin, Loretta (Vernon) Sprecher, and Eleanor (Ervin) Bentz; one brother-in-law, Norbert Ding; one sister-in-law, Florence Zimmerman and many nieces and nephews.

Olga was preceded in death by her husband, one infant brother, Delbert, one infant grandson Kelly Zimmerman, two sisters, Christina Schmidt and Adeline Ding, two brothers-in-law, Marvin Miller and Albert Nickolaus.
