Robert A. Waller, 80, formerly of New England, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Bob’s funeral service with Eastern Star ceremony will be on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10 a.m., at the First Congregational Church, New England, with Pastor Janel Kolar officiating. Interment will take place at the New England City Cemetery, with military honors provided by the New England American Legion Anton Ulijohn Post #66. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the family present to greet and visit with friends at Ladbury Funeral Service, visitation will continue one hour to services at the church on Saturday. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Robert A. Waller was born September 30, 1929 in Breckenridge, Minn., the son of Arthur and Eleanor (Wilson) Waller. His parents died prior to Bob turning two years old, and he was then raised by his grandparents, Bertha and George Baxter in Breckenridge. He received his education there having graduated from Breckenridge High School. He went on to attend NDSCS in Wahpeton.
In 1949, Bob began a 45 year career with Slope Electric Cooperative in New England, retiring in 1995. From January of 1952 to January of 1954, Bob honorably served his country in the United States Army.
Bob married Elizabeth Hochhalter on June 23, 1955, and she died in August of 1988. He then married Geraldine Stebbins on September 6, 2006. Bob has spent the past 10 years residing in Bismarck. Throughout his life he belonged to and was active in several service organizations. These included The American Legion, Masons, and Order of the Eastern Star, he also served as clerk of the New England Public School Board. He enjoyed coin collecting, stamp collecting, music, photography and traveling.
Bob is survived by his wife, Geraldine, Bismarck; his two sons, Warren Waller, Portland, Ore., and Wayne Waller, Grand Canyon, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Dylan Elizabeth Stirewalt, Portland, Ore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his parents; and his grandparents.
