Kathryn E. Odegaard, 89, Dickinson, died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at her home. Kathryn’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. Steven Schou officiating. Interment will take place at the Cedar Valley Cemetery, Adams County. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Kathryn Eloise Davis was born December 10, 1920 to Arthur and Blanche (Hawk) Davis at Haley. She was raised on the family farm near Scranton. While growing up with her three sisters and two brothers, she loved to ride horse, play trumpet, play basketball, and tend to her family’s sheep and cattle. Kathryn was educated at Hammond Country School #1 near the family homestead and graduated from Scranton High School in 1938. As a young women she worked at Reimer’s Clothing and The Albion Hotel. Her primary occupation was as a telephone operator in Scranton.
On October 12, 1940, Kathryn was united in marriage to George Oscar Odegaard at Pastor Meyer’s home in Scranton. They lived in Scranton and raised a family of four. While living in Scranton, Kathryn enjoyed square dancing, being involved in 4-H, and playing Bridge with her lady friends. They relocated to Grand Forks in 1967. Her husband George died in 1984, and Kathryn remained in Grand Forks until the flood of 1997 when she moved to her present home in Dickinson.
Kathryn is survived by her four children, Gaylord (Lynn) Odegaard, Galloway, Ohio, Gary (Candy) Odegaard, Dickinson, Judy (Gary) Englund, Eagan, Minn., and Ava Lanes, Parachute, Colo.; grandchildren, Shannon Johnson, Littleton, Colo., Allison (Mitch) Henke, Burnsville, Minn., Ryan Johnson, Littleton, Colo., Michael (Starla) Odegaard, Dickinson, Tim Odegaard, Dickinson, Beth (Scott) Tschetter, Dickinson, Kate (Rich) Flanagan, Galloway, Ohio, and Anne (Mike) Soracco, Jacksonville, Fla.; and her great-grandchildren, Erik Odegaard, Dickinson, Molly and Clare Flanagan, Galloway, Ohio, Elyse and Ingrid Soracco, Jacksonville, Fla., Colin, Hanna and Caden Tschetter, Dickinson, and Joshua and Landon Henke, Burnsville, Minn. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Blanche; her husband, George; sisters, LaVonne, Vivian and Josephine; and her brothers, Kenneth and Gerald.
