Lorene Messer, 61, Dickinson died following a short battle with cancer on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at MedCenter One, Bismarck. Lorene’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2009 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Steven Tangen officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Lorene Krug was born February 25, 1948 at Havelock, North Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Alpert) Krug. She was raised and educated in the Hebron area. Lorene had lived in Chicago, Ill. for a period of time prior to moving to Dickinson in the late 1960’s.
Lorene married Ray Messer on June 14, 1978 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. They made their home in Dickinson and for the past 20 years she has worked at St. Benedict’s Health Center. Her husband Ray died June 7, 1996.
Lorene enjoyed playing bingo, cards and dice but what brought her the most joy was her family and she cherished time spent especially with her grandchildren.
Lorene is survived by 11 children, Marilyn Kenly, Austin, Texas, Ray, Jr. Messer, Dickinson, Belinda Messer, Bowman, Candice (Leo) Washington, Austin, Texas, Michelle (Vern) Howard, Lewistown, Mont., Deanne Messer, Dickinson, Kim Krug, Dickinson, Wendy Messer, Dickinson, Tobias (Sheri) Messer, Dickinson, Melissa (Jerrod) Warner, Dickinson and Jessica Messer, Dickinson; 20 grandchildren; two brothers, Pete (Fumiko) Krug, Dickinson and Frank (Marcy) Krug, Pierce, Idaho; and five sisters, Caroline (Jerome) Dukart, Dickinson, Agnus (Henry) Weiler, Dickinson, Shirley (Gordon) Svihl, Dickinson, Eileen (Lester) Dietz, Pierce, Idaho, and Anna (Leonard) Marszalek, Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray; daughter, Annette; grandson Nathan Messer; her parents; and an infant brother, Lloyd.
