Melton L. Aune, 80, formerly of Dickinson died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, Minn. Melton’s wishes were to be cremated and inurned at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with no formal services held.
Melton Leonard Aune was born March 25, 1928 at Parshall, N.D., the son of Arthur E. and Mabel S. (Moan) Aune. He was raised and educated in Parshall and having graduated from Parshall High School.
Melton Served in the United States Army from September 19, 1946 to his honorable discharge on March 18, 1948. He went on to attend the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he graduated with a degree in accounting. Melton then served in the United States Air Force from September 21, 1952 to his honorable discharge as a 2nd Lieutenant on October 1, 1953.
Melton had made Dickinson his home for most of his adult life and while in Dickinson he ran a service station and also had rental property.
Melton is survived by a sister, Dolores Woessner, Meriden, Conn.; and a brother, Merlyn L. Aune, Cheyenne, Wyo. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother-in-law, Donald Woessner.
