Mary Doppler, 75, Dickinson, ND, passed away Monday, July 28, 2008 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Entombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Mary Eve Hamilton was born November 16, 1932 in Granville, ND, the daughter of Clifford and Christine (Kuhn) Hamilton. She attended school in Granville and Pine River. Growing up she loved music and had taught herself to play the accordion, guitar and the piano. She liked to dance and spend time with family and friends.
On April 28, 1948 she married Frank Doppler in Brainerd, Minn., and together they had 12 children, losing one at childbirth. They farmed for 10 years near Akeley, Minn., and later Mary and Frank opened and operated the Chapperal Bar in Merrifield, Minn.. In 1976 they moved to Colorado and then in 1978 they moved to Iowa where she ran a daycare and then worked at Sather’s Candy in Round Lake, Minn., and Berkeley’s in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Mary and Frank moved to Dickinson in 1980 where they have since made their home. She was a devoted wife and mother and kept her hands busy with gardening, knitting, crocheting, and any other craft she could get her hands on. At the time of her death she was a resident of the St. Luke’s Home.
Mary will be remembered and missed by her husband, Frank; their 11 children, Kathy (Mike Gates) Strese, James (Lynn) Doppler, Thomas Doppler, Junice (Ron) Neu, Mary (Larry Pesheck) Tuttle, Kenneth (LaVonne) Doppler, Bonnie (Ted) Jafvert, Marcus (Valerie) Doppler, Lori (Rod) Lange, Pamela (Sherman) Biffert, and Julie (Nathan) Thomas; 45 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Frank Hamilton, Grace Tonnessen, and Leonard Hamilton; grandson, Jesse Strese; and two great-grandchildren, Diondre and Zhane Doppler. She will be forever loved and missed.
