Catherine “Kay” Scott, 92, formerly of Underwood, ND, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at her home in Dickinson. Kay’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2008 at the United Methodist Church, Dickinson with Rev. Scott McKirdy officiating. Interment will take place at Underwood, ND. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Catherine Baldner was born April 29, 1916 at Garrison, ND the daughter of Charles and Marion (Reed) Baldner. She was raised and educated in Garrison, attended junior college at Eagle Grove, Iowa, and then completed her education at Minot State Teachers College having received a Standard Teaching Certificate.
Catherine married Gordon Scott on April 16, 1941 in Washington, DC. Catherine had taught school throughout her life, beginning in a one room country school and retiring from the Underwood Public School.
The Scott’s continued to live in Underwood and would make their annual trip south in the winter months to Mesa, Ariz.. Catherine’s husband Gordon died on December 13, 1996. She continued making trips to Mesa until just recently, and in 2006 became a resident of Park Avenue Villa in Dickinson.
Catherine enjoyed china painting, gardening and all types of needle work, some of which she did into her 90’s. She belonged to the United Methodist Women, and the Eastern Star in which she held offices on the district and state levels.
Catherine is survived by her two children, Laurie Massey, Dickinson, and David (Karen) Scott, Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, Becky (Brian) Lakeman, Susan (Jason) Sickler, Mitchell (Miranda) Massey, and Summer (Daniel) Heger; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; and three brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
